UoC clinched the title of the inter university Elle

University of Colombo clinched the title of the interuniversity Elle championship 2012 in style as they beat University of Kelaniya in a thrilling contest. The tournament was held at the University Colombo grounds on 31st of May, 1st and 2nd of June 2012.
Twelve university teams competed in the group stage of the tournament which spanned throughout day one and day two of the tournament. Quarter final stage which was followed by the group stage mostly consisted of one sided encounters. The only exception was the game between university of Moratuwa against university of Peradeniya - which ended in a tie. University of Moratuwa advanced in to the semi final stage by winning the tie breaker by 2-1. The other teams which advanced to the semi finals were university teams from Colombo, Kelaniya and Ruhuna.
Later in the day, university of Colombo and university of Kelaniya was able to proceed into the finals followed by their victories against University of Moratuwa and university of Ruhuna respectively.
The 3rd place playoff between Moratuwa and Ruhuna saw Ruhuna securing the 3rd place with a score line of 3-5. The final between university of Keleniya and university of Colombo proved to be a breathtaking encounter as both sides ended up with five points each when the game ended.
Bad light forced the two day event to be dragged into a third day. On the third morning, university of Colombo triumphed over University of Kelaniya in a close tie breaker with a score line of 4-3 to secure the title for year 2012.
