Players from 11 university teams fought to win the pride of Inter University Netball Championship 2012, on 26-27th may at University Of Peradeniya Playground, and University of Colombo team won it after a tough match with University of Sabaragamuwa with a score of 29-37.
At the beginning of the final match, two teams played so well, and at the end of the first quater of the match, both teams scored 10 points each. A.A.C. Sandunika, leaded her team to the victory.Sabra team which was filled with many experienced team members, who participated in the last world university games, played with there full talent, under the captaincy ofNauchalee Rajapakshe andbecame the first runners up, for the 2nd consecutive time.
At the same time, the match to decide the 3rd place was played between University of Kelaniya, under the captaincy of M.C. Padmini, with University of Moratuwa, and captain of UOM, Yuresha Chamodi fought with her team and was able to lead from the beginning of the match and won it with a score of 64-26.
Group champions and runners up teams were selected to the quarterfinals. UOC, champions of group A, played with SJP, the runners up of group C, and selected to the Semi Finals, with a score of 32-11. At the semi finals, they met UOK and won it by 35-23 and selected to the finals. Kelaniyawon their quarter finals with University of Wayaba by 26-22 and selected for the semi finals.
Universityof Sabaragamuwa, champions of the group B who played with a great team effort was selected to the finals by defeating UOM at semis by 24-17. At the quarter final stage they metUniversity ofJaffna, the runners up of group D, scored 36-17 and went to the upper stage.
UOM, runners up of group A, won the quarter finals with the host team UOP who were the chapions of group C,after a hard match with a score of 33-31 and selected to the semi finals, while pera team went out from the tournament unfortunately.
